Herminia (Chata)Valencia

The noble and loving life of Herminia (Chata) Valencia ended on Friday, May 22, 2020. She was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, on June 14, 1930. Her parents Rafael and Herminia Valencia, her sister Olga V Enciso, and her brother Guillermo Valencia preceded her in death. She is survived by eight nephews, two nieces, and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces who will all miss her dearly.  After the death of her father in 1947, her family immigrated to the United States. In the following years she was gainfully employed at Valley National Bank before joining the office staff at Southern Trust Company where she remained for over thirty years until her retirement on October 31, 1995. Although she was an avid traveller and visited numerous locations in five continents, she was most at home in her beloved Ambos Nogales where she enjoyed her family and nurtured many friendships on both sides of the border. She enjoyed participating in countless community activities and events, including volunteer work for Sacred Heart Parish, assisting at the Pimeria Alta Historical Society, and serving as a Literacy Volunteer. Whenever an election came along, she especially looked forward to serving on the Election Board. Funeral services will be conducted in compliance with current social distancing guidelines. A more public Memorial and Celebration of Life Service is planned when it is permissible.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Broadway Proper Retirement Community, Frances Residential Care, Handmaker Skilled Nursing, and Agape Hospice for the loving care they rendered to our beloved Tia Chata as she navigated on her final journey in life.
