Maria Soledad Acosta, "Sally", a devoted and spirited woman known for her dedication and warmth, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Born on June 28, 1945, in Tucson, Sally’s life was marked by a commitment to caring for others and an unmistakable feistiness that endeared her to many.
A proud 1963 graduate of Pueblo High School in Tucson, Sally’s early years were characterized by a deep compassion that guided her career choice. She found profound fulfillment in her work with handicap children, where her dedication and efficiency made a lasting impact. This chapter of her life stood as one of her proudest accomplishments, highlighting her empathy and drive to make a difference. Later, she embraced various occupations, continuously keeping herself engaged and active.
Sally’s personality was as vibrant as it was complex. Known for running against the current and insisting on it being her way or no way, she possessed a feisty spirit that commanded both respect and affection. Her friendships were easy to form, as she was quick to love and slow to judge. When Sally was sweet, she was irresistibly so, often expressing her love for children and animals alike. A perfectionist at heart, she found joy in the care of her many pets, particularly her beloved birds and her dogs, which she raised with tender devotion throughout her life.
Her legacy lives on through her cherished family. Sally is survived by her children, Lilia Mercedes Garcia (Luis C. Escalante), Francisco Javier Acosta (Jessica Acosta), and Luis Jaime Acosta (Sonia Grajeda). She was a proud grandmother to Luis Miguel Escalante, Carlos Andres Escalante, Brianna Christina Acosta, Mark Jaime Acosta, Ryan Anthony, and Christopher Alexander Acosta. Her great-grandchildren—Amarisse Lizette Escalante, Miguel Gabriel Escalante, Jydn Curtis, Naya Curtis, Lyla Valentina Acosta, and Jaime Alessio Acosta—along with many nieces, nephews, and friends, also carry forward her memory and spirit.
A memorial service celebrating Sally's life will be held on July 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson, Arizona, located at 2580 S 6th Ave. This gathering will honor a woman who was both a friend to all and a testament to living life fiercely and kindly.
Sally’s life was a blend of strength, love, and unwavering dedication. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories and influences that will continue to inspire those who knew her well. Her journey may have ended, but her spirit endures in the hearts she touched.
