Samuel "Sam" D. Chilcote, Jr., a distinguished and accomplished individual, passed away on April 5, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Born on August 24, 1937, in Casper, Wyoming, Sam led a life full of significant contributions and achievements. 

Throughout his career, Sam made remarkable strides in various fields. His journey in the distilled spirits industry commenced in 1967 when he joined the Distilled Spirits Institute as a Regional Supervisor. Prior to this role, he served in several key positions within the State of Wyoming's Department of Education. Sam's roles ranged from Assistant Superintendent to Director of Publications and Public Relations, showcasing his versatility and commitment to public service. He also actively participated in Governor's Committees and various associations related to education and boxing. In the later years of his career, Sam was elected President of the Tobacco Institute in February 1981 after serving as President of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Inc. (DISCUS). His involvement with these organizations underscored his dedication to promoting responsible alcohol use and addressing alcohol-related issues through public education programs. He spearheaded initiatives like the Beverage Alcohol Information Council (BAIC) and BACCHUS to educate individuals on alcohol-related matters. After moving to Tubac, Arizona in 2004, Mr. Chilcote began as general manager at the Tubac Golf Resort and transitioned to becoming a partner. 

Aside from his professional endeavors, Mr. Chilcote was a graduate of Idaho State University and received recognition with the 1986 Professional Achievement Award from the College of Business at his alma mater. His military service in the U.S. Army further exemplified his dedication to duty and country.

Outside of work, Mr. Chilcote cherished moments spent engaging in hobbies such as hunting, golfing, horseback riding, and motorcycle adventures. He was a member the Los Caballeros Bike Clubs of Wickenburg, Arizona and Durango, Colorado. Sam found joy in sharing stories over cocktails and making lasting memories with friends and family.

Among his proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren, whom he held dear to his heart throughout his life. Mr. Chilcote also generously contributed to various organizations such as The Ford's Theatre National Historical Foundation Program, The Art Barn Association Executive Committee, Congressional Country Club, Sky Ranch Foundation, among others. He is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who the West, Review's Who in the Liquor Industry Royal Blue Book, Dictionary of International Biography and the Directory of Public Affairs.

Mr. Samuel D. Chilcote, Jr., is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ellen; daughters Sheridan Day Chilcote Yokel and Samantha Dawn Chilcote; as well as grandchildren Max, Lily, and Franky. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Juanita Chilcote and brother Daniel C. Chilcote.

His presence will be deeply missed but his impact will forever remain an integral part of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Samuel "Sam" D. Chilcote, Jr., will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to causes close to his heart, his impactful leadership within various industries, and most importantly, for the love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace.
