Robert "Gordo" Carrasco Gamez, Jr. was born on September 4, 1978, in Tucson, Arizona, and passed away on July 18, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. Throughout his life, Robert, known to his loved ones as "Gordo," touched many hearts with his loving nature and deep dedication to his family and community.

Robert was the cherished son of Linda Soshie and the late Robert Gamez. He will be deeply missed by his loving mother, Linda Shosie and her spouse Oscar Almazan. He is remembered fondly by his stepfather Joseph Shosie, and his siblings; Sonia Gamez, Yessenia Robles, Jojo Shosie, Paula Haywood and her husband Brandon, Tina Marie Shosie, Clarissa Shosie, and Selina Gamez. Robert was also a beloved grandson to Alicia Gamez and Mary Alice Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gamez; brothers, Gilbert Gamez and Anthony Gamez; sister, Tianna Shosie; and grandfathers, Gregorio Gamez and Ruben Morales Robles.

From early on, Robert exhibited a sincere, caring, and ambitious spirit. He was described by those closest to him as loving, goofy, very happy, and always determined. This unique combination of warmth and drive became a hallmark of his character, shaping the path he chose in life.

A notable scholar with a keen mind, Robert dedicated much of his life to studying law, developing an unwavering belief in justice and equality for all. His passion led him to be recognized as a "jailhouse lawyer"—a distinction earned through countless hours advocating for the human rights and well-being of other inmates. Robert’s legacy of advocacy extended beyond the prison community. He was recognized in several well-known local and national publications for his dedication and compassionate work. Among his proudest accomplishments was his steadfast commitment to fighting for the rights of incarcerated individuals, earning respect and gratitude from those whose lives he touched.

Despite the challenges he faced, Robert’s love for his family remained constant and profound. He found great joy and comfort in the bonds he shared with them, always striving to nurture and support his loved ones.
