Rita SoteloNovember 12, 1938 - May 16, 2026
Rita Sotelo, a woman many called, “an angel” passed away comfortably and peacefully on May 16, 2026 at the age of 87. Born in San Miguel de Horcasitas, Sonora Mexico. Rita’s main legacy was one of devotion to God, her family, and loved ones.
She was married on November 28, 1958 to Marcos Sotelo in Hermosillo Sonora Mexico. Their marriage lasted 67 years until “death did them part.” Together, they created a family of eight sons and one daughter. In order of birth, their children were: Ramon, Noe, Lourdes, Marcos, Jose Luis, Alberto, Ernesto, Ruben and Adan. Sadly, Ernesto preceded Rita in his death on October 6, 1986 at the age of 17.The remaining children are all living and mourning the passing of their beloved mother. Her husband Marcos is also living and 92 years of age. His nickname for her was “r” “eh-rre.”
Rita’s family emigrated from Mexico and arrived at Tucson Arizona on July 6th, 1971. At the age of 33 and with 8 children in tow, she found the fortitude to love, nurture, and guide her children and husband. Two of her boys became United States Marines and they cared for Rita along with her daughter while her health declined and were present at her death along with their father and other loved ones. The two Marines, Ruben and Noe, exemplified the best qualities of what Marines are known for: always faithful - just like Rita.
Rita was much more than a beloved mother and grandmother; she was a great daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend. Her heart was vast and full of love, embraced by all who had the honor to know her. She approached every day with a spirit of perseverance, teaching those around her that suffering was never an option and that strength was what kept one moving forward. Rita found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cherishing the comfort of home, carrying out her daily chores of cooking, cleaning and washing. Her vibrant soul radiated warmth and kindness, making her an extraordinary human being whose presence will be deeply missed.
Rita also leaves behind 26 grandchildren 28 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
