Raul F. Padilla, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Born on March 20, 1945, in Tucson, Raul was a man who embodied a spirit of laughter and dedication that touched everyone he met.
Raul enjoyed a fulfilling career as a master welder, contributing his skills to several mines including San Manuel, Cypress, and Duval, before retiring from Asarco. His talent not only supported his family but also left a legacy of craftsmanship. He was a proud graduate of Pueblo High School and attended ABC Trade School for Welding, where he honed his skills that would later serve him and others well.
Raul was known for his vibrant personality; he was a jokester and a fun person to be around. His friends and family describe him as very loving and generous, with a wise demeanor that drew people to him. His charisma and friendly nature made every gathering more joyful, and he had a reputation as a hardworking, creative soul with a courageous heart.
Beyond his career, Raul had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He loved raising game fowl and, in his younger years, trained racehorses that raced at Rillito, a passion that allowed him to create lasting connections with those in the racing community. His craftsmanship extended to welding horse walkers and racing gates for many others, showcasing his dedication to the equine world. In addition, he took pride in making hunting knives and wood sculptures from ironwood, as well as nurturing his passion for gardening.
Raul’s proudest accomplishments were the moments he spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Edna M. Padilla, along with his children: Nadene Padilla, Eileen Padilla, Pauline Corral (Manuel), Raul Padilla, Jr., and Mario Padilla (Roxanne). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Stephen, Patricia, Christin, Haley, Ruben, Bianca, Justine, Lauren, Emmanuel, Chamille, Danyssa, Raul, Benjamin, Andrew, Avyana, Alexis, Mario, Mia, Daniel, Christopher, and Marissa, as well as 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Irma Garner, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry his spirit forward.
Raul was preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Margarita Padilla, and siblings, Richard Padilla and Delia Murrieta. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on December 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson, Arizona. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. A Mass to celebrate Raul's life will be held on December 9, 2025, at Santa Cruz Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
In honoring Raul’s life, we remember a man whose warmth and humor brought light to many. He will be deeply missed but his legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
