Rafael D. Fimbres, a man remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, work, and community, passed away on May 4, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born on December 22, 1945, in Huasabas, Sonora, Mexico, Rafael’s life was a testament to strength, resilience, and quiet generosity.
Rafael's professional journey was marked by his expertise in HVAC systems. He received his training in this field and devoted many years to maintaining all of the units at Pima Community College and many other places. His hands, skilled and steady, not only kept the college’s environment comfortable but also reflected a deeper passion for fixing things. Even after an injury to his hand, Rafael’s creativity and determination shone through; he ingeniously adapted tools to continue his work and demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness by completing a brick fence single-handedly. His practical skills were matched by a resourcefulness that inspired those who knew him.
Beyond his work, Rafael was a man of profound character. He led with tough love when raising his children, embodying strong and steadfast love that shaped the foundation of his family. Rafael had a big heart and adored his loved ones, finding great joy in spending time with friends and speaking candidly when he felt it necessary. His humility was evident in the quiet ways he helped others, often offering assistance without seeking recognition or praise.
Rafael’s proudest accomplishments were his family and his ability to provide for them. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Jimenez Salazar; his children, Dianne Young (Jayson), Raphael Fimbres (Flor), and Luis Fimbres; his cherished grandchildren, John David Fugate, Isaiah Matthew Norris, Christian Joseph Norris, Gabriel Ezekiel Norris, Jordan Alexander Fugate, and Jasmine Fimbres; as well as a beloved great-granddaughter. His surviving siblings include Esthela Fimbres Mendez, Norma Fimbres Rios, Heberto Fimbres Duran, Maria Fimbres Alvarez, Lourdes Fimbres Duran, and Dora Fimbres Palacios.
Rafael was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Luisa Fimbres, and his sister, Alicia Fimbres Flores.
In remembering Rafael D. Fimbres, we honor a man who combined strength and kindness, dedication and humility. His legacy is carried forward by his family and all those whose lives he touched through his steadfast work and generous spirit.
