Norma was a loving, kind-hearted, energetic woman whose hospitality and warmth touched many lives. She was known for helping those in need, for her joyful spirit, and for a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to those around her. She loved to sing, loved to cook for others, and carried an immense love for God throughout her life.
A graduate of Nogales High School, Class of 1965, Norma built a life centered on family, service, and community. She worked at Mariposa Community Health Center for 17 years as a promotora, a role that reflected her caring nature and her dedication to others. Her work and commitment were recognized through the 2000 Profiles of Success Recipients - Valle del Sol. Among the accomplishments she held with pride were her work with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation MORE THAN PINK Walk, her years as a Mariposa Community Health Center promotora, and her participation in Relay for Life in Nogales, Arizona.
Norma will also be remembered for the way she gathered people together. She was an amazing hostess for family get-togethers and lived by the spirit of “the more the merrier.” Her home and her table welcomed many, and she always made sure there was plenty of delicious food to share. She became especially well known for her tacos, pozole, stuffed grape leaves, kibbeh, and pineapple upside-down cake. She loved to laugh and delighted in funny stories, and her family will always cherish the moments when she would mix up English and Spanish words and laugh right along with everyone else.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Rafael H. Guerra. She also leaves her children, Rafael Guerra and his wife Lisa, Ernesto Guerra and his wife Lorena, and Laura Guerra. Her love continues through her grandchildren, Hayden, Alec, Aaron, and Andre.
Norma is also survived by her siblings and extended family, including Austreberto and Marelena Carlon, Mauricio and Maureen Carlon, Octavio and Eva Carlon, Javier Carlon, Linda and John Keck, Sara Carlon, and her brother-in-law Jose Luis Rojo. The love of her family surrounded her throughout her life, and her memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sarah and Austreberto Carlon, brother Anthony Carlon and his wife Paula, her sister Teresa Richardson and her husband Charles, and her sister Queta.
Norma’s life was one of generosity, faith, laughter, and service. She fed people with love, welcomed them with joy, and gave of herself freely. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her kindness.
