Michael G. Rodriquez

January 11, 1956 – September 16, 2026

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Michael G. Rodriquez, who earned his wings and entered eternal rest on September 16, 2026, at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by his beloved wife and loving family.

Michael was born on January 11, 1956, in Tucson, Arizona, to Susana G. Rodriquez and Francisco "Frank" L. Rodriquez Sr. He was raised in South Tucson, where he developed the values of family, hard work, and service that would guide him throughout his entire life. Michael attended Mission View Elementary School, Wakefield Junior High School, and Pueblo High School.

Michael answered the call to serve his country at a young age, entering the United States Army in 1973. During his distinguished military career, he rose through the ranks and earned the rank of Sergeant, serving honorably until 1996. His military service reflected the courage, integrity, and dedication that defined his character.

Following his retirement from the Army, Michael continued his lifelong mission of serving veterans and helping others. Throughout his career, he worked with the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program, served as a Social Insurance Specialist with the Social Security Administration, worked as a Local Veterans Employment Representative for the Arizona Department of Economic Security, and concluded his career with the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services as a Veterans Benefits Counselor. After years of selfless service to veterans and their families, Michael retired in 2012. He then became a member of the Knights of Columbus

Michael spent his retirement years in Show Low, Arizona, with the love of his life, Ellen "Lynn" Patterson Rodriquez. Together for 27 years, Michael and Lynn built a life filled with love, companionship, laughter, and cherished memories. They were married in Holbrook, Arizona, and shared an unwavering bond that endured throughout the years.

Michael’s service to our nation reflected his honor, courage, and selfless devotion to others. He was deeply respected among his many veteran brothers and was known for his compassion, character, and willingness to help anyone in need. His values and dedication leave a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Above all else, Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved his family deeply and found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and held a special place in his heart for Michael Payne, whom he loved and considered his son.

Some of Michael’s happiest moments were spent fishing with his grandchildren and Michael, sitting around the backyard fire pit, cheering on his beloved University of Arizona Wildcats basketball and football teams, and watching his grandson Justin play baseball. He treasured family graduations, birthday celebrations, holiday gatherings, weddings, and every opportunity to be surrounded by family.

Michael was also a devoted pet lover who adored his five cats, Peppa, Blonka, Tiny, Patches, and Wilma, each of whom was thoroughly spoiled and loved.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Rodriquez; his son, Michael Payne (Joyce Drozd); grandchildren, Justin Payne and Jonathan Payne (Sky); and his brothers and sisters: Marian Morales, Ruth Perez (Alfred Sr.+), Penny Cardenas (Sal), Patsy Owens (Steve Hamrick), Laura Trejo (Tony Sr.), Esther Martin (Danny), Francisco Rodriquez Jr. (Hope Tapia), Ted Rodriquez (Linda), Joseph Rodriquez (Helmelda Zermeno), Jerry Rodriquez (Desery Celaya), and Maria Miranda (Robert). He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Frank L. Rodriquez Sr. and Susana G. Rodriquez; his sisters, Ermelinda Rodriquez and Evangelina (Eva,Dee) Barrios; and many other cherished relatives.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Michael’s life was one of purpose, honor, and love. His legacy lives through the countless veterans he helped, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched through his kindness and generosity.

He will be remembered with honor, gratitude, and love always.
