Michael "Mikey" Joseph Gonzales, a spirited soul who brought joy and warmth to all who crossed his path, left this world on April 30, 2025, in Barksdale Airforce Base in Louisiana, where he was born on July 1, 1986. He touched the hearts of many with his outgoing and loving nature, his deep spirituality, and his unwavering willingness to help others in need.
As the owner and trainer for Mike's First Strike Boxing, Mikey dedicated himself not only to the sport he loved but also to shaping the lives of those around him. His enthusiasm for boxing extended into his role as a mentor and trainer to his son, Angel, fostering a bond that showcased the strength of their relationship. He also founded Angels and Doves Gateway Catholic Sanctuary, reinforcing his commitment to the well-being of animals, saving countless creatures including dogs, cats, reptiles, and turtles. His passion for life was evident in his everyday activities; whether it was fishing at Silverbell Lake, enjoying snack nights with his son Angel, or engaging in heartfelt morning prayers while carrying his beloved Bible, Mikey embraced each moment. He also enjoyed baking cakes for his family.
Mikey was proudly educated as an International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) Certified Personal Trainer, and he took immense pride in both his physical accomplishments and, above all, his role as a devoted father. He loved and cherished his children: Angel Ray Gonzales, III, Joseph Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, and Nehma Gonzales. He found immense fulfillment in being their guiding light and constant support, tirelessly nurturing their dreams.
Surrounded by a loving family, Mikey is survived by his parents, Deacon Angel and Maria Gonzales, who instilled in him the values that shaped his kind heart. He leaves behind a brother, Anthony Ray Gonzales, who shared in Mikey's dreams and memories along with his God-son, Anthony Ray "Tiger" Gonzales II, and his paternal grandparents, Angel R. Gonzales, along with his maternal grandmother, Terry Benavidez. He will also be remembered fondly by his Godfather, Father John Gonzales, as well as aunts Tami Sterling (Wayne), Iliana Gonzales, and Denise Benavidez. Numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends will carry his spirit in their hearts.
Mikey was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Jennie Gonzales, and maternal grandfather, Tony Benavidez, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
In honoring Mikey’s beautiful journey through life, a Rosary will be held on May 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM, at the Saint Odilia Catholic Community, located at 7570 N Paseo Del Norte, Tucson, AZ. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at Holy Hope Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
