Mary Magdelina Patterson

Apr 27, 1952 — Jul 21, 2026

Tucson, AZ

Mary's journey through life was marked by the fierce love she held for her family.

Mary Magdelina Patterson, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. She was born April 27, 1952, also in Tucson, a place she not only called home but lavished with her distinct warmth and indomitable spirit for seventy-four precious years.

Mary’s journey through life was marked by the fierce love she held for her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Patterson, who lovingly stood by her side throughout every chapter. Together, their lives were blessed by a large and vibrant family—her children Ellison Louder, Tarita Louder, Lollita, Travis Louder, Brian Louder, Leobardo Barrett, Norman Barrett, Syreeta Blount, Khidjah Blount, and LaToya Patterson—and her steadfast sisters Nyoka Martinez and Lorraine Gina Rojo, her brother, Leobardo Martinez, Jr., all of whom were touched by her endless capacity for love, generosity, and strength.

With aching hearts, Mary’s family remembers those who have gone before her: her father, Leobardo Martinez; her mother, Carmen Olguin; her brother, Ricardo Martinez; her daughters, Rosemary Barrett; her son, Eric Louder; and her sister, Bonnie.

Mary’s character was as radiant as the Tucson sun. She was fiery and stubborn in the very best of ways, never afraid to stand her ground to protect and nurture those she loved. At the core, she was giving—her love and warmth overflowing into every room she entered. Mary had an unparalleled strength, carrying her family with unwavering resolve and providing a listening ear or a comforting embrace when most needed. Her kindness was matched only by her spirit; people gravitated toward her; drawn in by her welcoming heart and the peace she created simply by being herself.

Some of her fondest passions brought joy both to herself and those dear to her. Mary made every movie night memorable, especially when she could share her favorite Disney story, Mulan, with those she loved. There was hardly ever a season without Christmas in her home, where holiday movies played year-round, filling her life with cheer and magic. When she relaxed, she enjoyed time spent watching HGTV, the Food Channel, and Hallmark television, always eager for a new recipe to share or a feel-good story to retell.

Through all her joys, Mary considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children. Each of them carries forward a piece of her spirit—their lives are her living legacy, bound together by the values of strength, love, and generosity she so beautifully instilled.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at a visitation on August 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson, 2580 S 6th Ave followed by a burial at 12:30 PM at Holy Hope Cemetery.  All are invited to gather, recall treasured memories, and offer their farewells to a woman whose presence made every day a little brighter.
