Mary Lou D. Yanez, born on August 22, 1949, in Silver City, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. She was a cherished member of her family and a devoted friend to many, known for her positivity, kindness, and the strength she brought to her loved ones.
Mary Lou dedicated over 30 years of her career to Sunnyside High School, where she served as a cashier in the cafeteria. Her retirement marked the end of a notable chapter that mirrored her nurturing spirit and deep commitment to serving her community. A proud graduate of Sunnyside High School herself, she always held a special place in her heart for the institution.
Throughout her life, Mary Lou was celebrated for her numerous talents, particularly in the kitchen where she delighted her family with her wonderful cooking and baking. She took immense joy in spending time with her beloved husband of 57 years, Frank M. Yanez, and had a playful spirit, often known for playfully picking on him. Together, they created a warm and loving home that was the backbone of their family.
Mary Lou’s role as a mother was one of her proudest accomplishments. She is survived by her children, Paul Yanez and Nissa Yanez, who will forever cherish the lessons and love she imparted to them. Her legacy continues on through her grandchildren Reyes Verdugo, Anthony Yanez, Francisco Yanez, Denissa Yanez, and Brandon Yanez. The joy she found in being a grandmother was unparalleled, further extended to her great-grandchildren, AJ Yanez, Maliyah Yanez, Priscilla Verdugo, Francisco Verdugo, Benjamin Yanez, Angel Valenzuela, Landon Yanez, Amaya Verdugo, Reyes Jr. Verdugo, and Rosemary Lou Valenzuela, each of whom brought her immense happiness.
Mary Lou is also survived by her sister, Joanne Medrano. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Francisco Yanez, and her parents, Albert and Annie Delgado.
Her visitation will take place on December 18, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 10:00 AM at Martinez Funeral Chapels - Tucson located at 2580 S 6th Ave, Tucson, Arizona.
In this time of grief, let us remember Mary Lou D. Yanez not only for her sorrowful departure but also for the joy, love, and light she brought into our lives. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
