Maria De La Paz Escobar, born December 4, 1952, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy defined by strength, perseverance, and immeasurable love. Her journey in life is a testament to the courage it takes to embrace change and the warmth that comes with devoting oneself wholly to family and faith.
Maria’s life story is one of extraordinary bravery—a woman who left her homeland of Honduras to build a new life in a foreign country, carrying hope, sacrifice, and determination in her heart. Never wavering, she faced every challenge with grace, holding tightly to her faith in God and the promise of a brighter future for her loved ones.
Education was a profound joy and source of pride for Maria. She tirelessly devoted herself to learning English, attending ESL classes consistently, and seizing every opportunity to read, write, and speak the language. Each accomplishment, whether a passing grade or an award, filled the hearts of her children with immense pride, immortalized in photographs of her joyful smile upon receiving recognition. Beyond language, Maria pursued courses in beadwork and jewelry making in Honduras, displaying a passion for creativity that continued throughout her life. Later, senior programs introduced her to sewing, quilting, and crocheting—skills she enthusiastically shared with others, forever embodying the belief that it is never too late to learn and grow.
For over a quarter of a century in California, Maria served as an independent residential housekeeper, a role she embraced not merely as employment, but as a heartfelt calling. Her dedication to making homes pristine and organized, restoring cherished items, and sharing stories of her craft revealed a spirit that found meaning and joy in every task done with love. Upon relocating to Arizona, she extended her giving nature to volunteer work at St. Mary’s Food Bank and multiple thrift stores in Phoenix and Tucson, passionately supporting those in need and returning home eager to share the stories of newfound connections.
Yet, the crown jewel of Maria’s life was her role as a mother and grandmother. She poured every ounce of her being into nurturing and raising her children and grandchildren, crafting a home filled with love, warmth, and unwavering support. To her family, she was the heart—a woman whose gentle words, radiant laughter, and comforting presence made every person feel truly seen, heard, and valued.
Maria’s personality was a mosaic of kindness and strength. She bore her struggles privately, always choosing kindness and positivity. Her empathetic, joyful nature lit up rooms with her contagious laughter and smile. Though she was tough and straightforward—often offering sage advice to prepare her children for life’s challenges—beneath it lay a playful, silly heart that never lost its childlike wonder despite the hardships of her early years.
Faith was the cornerstone of Maria’s existence. Mornings often found her with coffee in hand, reading the Bible and singing worship songs to Jesus. These quiet moments unveiled the depth of her devotion and the profound peace it brought her. Even when burdened by life’s difficulties, Maria never wavered in gratitude, thanking God daily for the gift of life—a testament to the humility, grace, and trust that defined her walk through the world.
Her accomplishments were as diverse as they were inspiring. Maria overcame a fear of caves by bravely venturing into Colossal Cave. She conquered the nervousness of learning to drive, turned sewing into a beautiful craft mastering an industrial sewing machine, confidently relearned to ride a bicycle, and embraced swimming motivated by her grandchildren’s safety—all embodying her fearless and curious spirit who forever sought growth. The arts and crafts she loved were not only hobbies but reflections of her boundless creativity and zest for life.
Maria found profound joy in her hobbies—reading scripture, praying, singing, crocheting, sewing, and watching Animal Planet. Cleaning was a true labor of love, ensuring those around her returned to a home that uplifted their spirits. Her deep affection for animals shone in the care she provided to farm creatures on the family ranch, where she was a natural healer and nurturer, a role that brought her great fulfillment. Though leaving the ranch was deeply painful, she carried the hope of caring for animals again someday. Her youthful curiosity embraced learning to handle power tools, making her feel empowered and mighty. Family and quality time were her heart’s jewels—visiting museums, botanical gardens, zoos, hiking, camping, gardening, cooking, and delighting especially in the nurturing tenderness of monkeys and gorillas, whose love for their offspring mirrored her own maternal affection.
Maria leaves behind her beloved daughters: Celia Escobar, Claudia Dubon, and Maria (Mary) Escobar; her cherished sons: Roger Escobar and Sixto (Six) Escobar; and her adored grandchildren: Ana Escobar, Krystal Escobar, and Zion Escobar. She is also survived by her mother, Maria Concepcion Dubon, and her six siblings—four brothers and two sisters—who shared a bond that sustained her throughout life.
Her children and grandchildren carry treasured memories that reveal the depth of her impact. From Celia’s fond remembrances of learning to crochet together, to Roger’s gratitude for a mother who never hesitated to give her love and care, to Six’s vivid recollections of tender moments, to Mary’s reflections on a lifelong companion who was more than a mother but a soulmate in adventure and trusted friend, to Ana’s homage to Maria’s unwavering faith, and Krystal’s assurance that her grandmother’s spirit will live on in their hearts—each testimony reflects a life richly lived and deeply loved.
Maria De La Paz Escobar’s legacy is one of perseverance, boundless love, and an unshakable faith that inspired those around her to keep going and embrace life fully. As she departs from this earthly journey, her spirit remains immortal in the lessons she imparted, the traditions she created, and the undying love she sowed in the hearts of all privileged to know her.
She will be forever missed, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
