Juan Manuel Islas, 67, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on July 16th, 2026. Born January 24th, 1959 in Nogales, Arizona, Juan was the son of Armando Islas and Esperanza Duarte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armando Islas and Esperanza Duarte, and by his oldest brother Alejandro Varela.
Juan will be remembered for his generous heart and the way he loved. When Juan loved, he loved fiercely and unconditionally. He cherished his family and friends. His laughter was contagious. His quick wit and humor brought joy to those around him. Juan enjoyed drawing and shared his detailed ink drawings with those close to him. Music was another constant in his life.
Whether singing along to a favorite song or simply enjoying music in the background, it brought him comfort and happiness. Juan faced many challenges throughout his life, yet he never stopped striving to move forward. He carried burdens that were not always easy to overcome, but he continued fighting to reclaim parts of his life.
His perseverance reflected a quiet strength that those closest to him admired. Funeral services will be held at Martinez Funeral Chapel 2580 S. 6Th. Ave. Tucson, Arizona, on August 7, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
He is survived by his son, Juan Jesus Islas (Bianca), daughter, Selina Islas (Carlos), grandchildren, Esperanza Islas, Jesus Armando Islas, Carlos Varela Jr. and Mia Varela; brothers, Rudy Duarte, Armando Islas, and Sergio Islas; sisters, Anita Hill and Lucy Leyvas (Robert), and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
