Jose Gilberto Ornelas, a beloved forest ranger and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026. Born on September 18, 1966, Jose’s life was a testament to kindness, humor, and dedication. A proud graduate of Nogales High School, he carried the warmth of his upbringing into every chapter of his life, enriching all who knew him with his gentle spirit and infectious laughter.
Jose devoted his career to the department of forest, where he worked tirelessly as a forest ranger. His deep love for nature extended beyond his job—he was a true land man, passionate about working with animals and caring for the world around him. His enthusiasm for life was evident not only in his work but also in his playful and creative pursuits. One of his proudest moments came when he won first prize for the Halloween mural contest, a masterpiece that was proudly displayed in a prominent Nogales department store, showcasing his artistic gift and his joy in bringing smiles to others.
His personality was a radiant light in the lives of many. Known for his great sense of humor, Jose’s mild, caring, and funny nature made him beloved by everyone he met. He was a cornerstone of family celebrations, especially during the holidays. He treasured Christmas, delighting in decorating and sharing that festive spirit. Thanksgiving held a special place in his heart as well, a time he loved spending with family, embracing the togetherness and joy of those moments. He was a constant presence at family reunions, joyfully reconnecting with cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents, savoring the bonds that tied them all together.
Jose’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void. His absence will be deeply felt by his sons, Joey Ornelas and Katrina Ornelas; his brothers, Francisco Martin Ornelas and his sister Yolanda Lillian Ornelas; his goddaughter Viviana Lizarraga; aunts Olga O. Caballero and Olivia O’Campo; nieces Kareyla Lillian Loera and Nicole Ornelas; nephew Prince; and many cousins who all carry stories of his kindness and humor in their hearts. He joins his dearly missed mother, Yolanda O. Ornelas; father, Gilberto Ornelas; and sister, Artemisa Geraldine Ornelas, who await him beyond this life.
Jose was more than just a man who loved the land and the animals; he was a beacon of warmth and joy, a dear soul whose gentle presence made the world around him better. The memories of his laughter, his care, and his spirited love of life will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace, his spirit forever intertwined with the natural beauty he so cherished.
