Hortensia "Tencha" Esparza, a beloved matriarch and vibrant spirit, passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 1, 1946, Tencha led a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
Tencha was known for her outgoing and adventurous personality, her wild spirit often accompanied by a charismatic smile that lit up any room. She was blunt yet nurturing, a good listener with a pure heart who opened her home to everyone in need. Her unconditional love touched many lives, and her famous words, “if ya know BTA,” became a mantra reflecting her generous nature.
Throughout her life, Tencha adored making memories with her loved ones, whether through cooking delicious meals, enjoying shopping outings, or hitting the casino and bingo halls. Her passion for life was also evident in her love for dancing, mixed drinks, and dining out, activities that brought joy and celebration to those around her.
Tencha proudly wore the titles of mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, cherishing her family above all else. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Jose Angel Esparza, and her children: Joseph D., Mark A., Xavier, Daniel, Joseph R., Joseph A., Manny O., Jordan A., Josiah A. Orantez, Adriah, and Andy Esparza. Her legacy extends to her treasured daughters, Desiree A. Orantez, Janeah A., Angelica, and Alicia Esparza.
Tencha’s family grew through the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored dearly. She also leaves behind her brothers: David, Michael, Ricky, George, and Daniel Noragaray, along with her sisters: Irma, Leticia, Olga, Patsy, Erlinda, Sylvia, Becky, Cathy, and Yolanda.
Her proudest accomplishments lie in the love she shared and the bonds she forged within her family. Tencha's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with adventure, compassion, and a sense of community, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. She will be dearly missed and warmly remembered.
