Gloria “Aya” Alvarez, 70, of Nogales, Arizona, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2026. Born on December 27, 1955, to Jose Pujol and Maria Rivera, Gloria lived a life centered on family, love, and the everyday moments that become treasured memories.

Aya found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved working on puzzles, watching television, and jamming to Michael Jackson. She was also known for her legendary Chop Suey, a dish remembered with affection by those who gathered around her table. More than anything, Gloria cherished time with the people she loved. The laughter, conversations, and shared memories of the years she spent with family and friends will remain close to the hearts of all who knew her.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with deep affection: her mother Maria Rivera, her sons, Roman G. Magallanes and Zachary Alvarez; her grandchildren, Monique, Arturo, Miley, Michael, Daniel, June, Landon, and James; and her siblings, Pat, Joe, Jesus, Rosie, Maria, and Karla. She was preceded in death by her father Jose Pujol.

Aya will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the stories told about her, in the sound of Michael Jackson songs, and in the special moments shared with those she loved.

Visitation will be held on August 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels - Nogales, 891 W Mariposa Rd, Nogales, AZ 85621. A Rosary will take place there the same day from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mass will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 272 N Rodriguez St, Nogales, AZ 85621, on August 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
