Obituary

In Loving Memory of Francisco Antonio “Frank” Hernandez Sr.

June 21, 1947 – October 12, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Francisco Antonio “Frank” Hernandez Sr., who passed away at home on October 12, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on June 21, 1947, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Frank was the sixth of eight children. A proud Tucson native, he grew up in the barrios of South Tucson, where his roots ran deep and where he learned the importance of family, faith, hard work, and generosity.

Frank graduated from Pueblo High School in 1966. Through hard work and determination, he built a fulfilling career and dedicated 25 years of service to the City of Tucson, retiring as a Construction Inspector Supervisor. He took pride in his work, the relationships he built, and the opportunity to serve the community he called home.

Frank was a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy came from being surrounded by those he loved. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, generous heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He worked hard to provide for his family and always did whatever he could to make sure those he loved were cared for.

Frank was also a man of deep faith who believed in putting his values into action. During his younger years, he was actively involved in his church and found great fulfillment in serving others. In 1988, he began organizing an annual Christmas celebration for children and families in need. With the help of family and friends, the celebration provided children with a warm meal, treats, Christmas gifts, and a special visit from Santa Claus. What began as one man’s desire to bring joy to others grew into a beloved tradition that continued through the dedication of those who shared his vision.

Frank also gave his time to youth sports, coaching and supporting the Southwest Rams football organization, where he served as president. He believed in giving young people opportunities, building community, and making a difference in the lives of others.

Throughout his life, Frank remained deeply connected to his Tucson roots, family traditions, and faith. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, reading his daily newspaper, and appreciating life’s simple pleasures. His humor could bring laughter to a room, while his kindness and generosity touched countless lives.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Gloria Hernandez; his daughter, Monica Molina (Freddie); and his son, Chris Hernandez (Terry). He is also survived by his brothers, Ernie Hernandez and David Hernandez; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Frank Hernandez Jr., and his grandson, Frank Hernandez III.

Frank’s life was not measured by material possessions or recognition, but by the love he gave, the family he cherished, and the countless ways he helped others. He was a hardworking man, a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and someone who never forgot the importance of giving back.

His greatest legacy lives on in the family he raised, the lives he touched, and the values he passed down through generations.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his love, his laughter, his stories, and his example will remain with us forever.

Rest in peace, Dad. Your work here is done, but the love you gave and the lessons you taught us will live on for generations. You will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
