Nogales

Francisco Ernesto Lopez Mendivil, affectionately known as Kiko, passed away on September 28, 2023, in his hometown of Nogales, Arizona. Born on February 2, 1947, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, Francisco's life was a testament to hard work, dedication to family, and unwavering faith.

From a young age, Francisco showed a strong work ethic and commitment to his studies. He graduated with honors from Nogales High School in 1968 and continued his education at Arizona State University on an academic scholarship. These achievements laid the foundation for a successful career that spanned several decades.

For approximately 25 years, Francisco worked at Ta-De Produce and Chamberlain Distributing. His loyalty and commitment to these companies were admirable traits that garnered respect from colleagues and supervisors. After his tenure in the private sector, Francisco transitioned to the Nogales Unified School District #1 in Support Services until his retirement in 2012. His dedication to serving others extended beyond the workplace.

Francisco's true joy came from spending time with his beloved family. He was a devoted husband to Manuelita Lopez for an incredible 54 years. As a provider and protector for his children and grandchildren, Francisco always made time for them. He embraced his role as the big brother and was there for his siblings whenever they needed him. Each year, he hosted an Annual Christmas Posada filled with piñatas, food, candies, and gifts—a tradition eagerly anticipated by all.

Beyond his familial ties, Francisco's kindness knew no bounds. He was known as a hardworking man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Whether fixing sprinklers or toilets or providing assistance as a handyman, Francisco's generosity touched the lives of many in the community. He was especially compassionate towards those less fortunate—an embodiment of his deeply held values.

Francisco's hobbies and interests showcased his creative spirit. He had a passion for writing poems and short stories, which allowed him to express his emotions and share his unique perspective with the world. His love for literature was complemented by his fondness for cowboy and western movies, transporting him to different worlds through cinematic storytelling. Music also held a special place in Francisco's heart, and he would joyfully play it for the entire neighborhood, bringing people together through melodies that transcended language.

Throughout his life, Francisco remained steadfast in his faith. His commitment to his religious beliefs was unwavering, serving as a guiding light in everything he did. His connection to Sacred Heart Catholic Church was profound, providing him with a spiritual home where he found comfort, solace, and a sense of community.

Francisco Ernesto Lopez Mendivil is survived by his loving spouse Manuelita Lopez, who shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. He will forever be remembered as a devoted father to Francisco Ernesto Lopez Jr. (Lorraine), Luis Alonso Lopez (Suzy), Alejandro Ignacio Lopez (Marlene), and Mayra Zuniga (Daniel). Francisco's legacy also lives on through his cherished 14 grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.

In addition to his immediate family, Francisco is survived by his brothers Gustavo Alonso Lopez and Luis Ramon Lopez, as well as his sisters Julieta Aleman, Maria Edilia Lopez, Rosa Maria Varela, Irene Arellano, and Maria Felix.
