Fabian Castro Valdez, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on September 27, 2026, in his hometown at the age of 52. Born on March 5, 1974, in Tucson, Fabian lived a life marked by devotion to his family, dedication to his work, and a spirit that brought energy and warmth wherever he went.
Fabian built a long and honorable career in public service. He began in law enforcement with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for a couple of years before becoming a police officer with the Tucson Police Department. Over the course of 24 years, he gave his time, strength, and commitment to the community through his work there, later continuing his service with the Pima Community College Police Department for the past two years. His career stood as one of his proudest accomplishments, reflecting the hardworking, protective, and generous man so many knew and loved.
Beyond his profession, Fabian was remembered for the way he lived each day—with heart, humor, and unmistakable presence. He was rambunctious, caring, charismatic, witty, loud, and full of life. He loved art, enjoyed listening to music, and found joy in dancing. He was also a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. More than anything, Fabian loved spending time with his family. He was family oriented in every sense, and his children and grandchildren were among his greatest sources of pride and happiness.
He is survived by his children, Raquel Held, Aubrey Valdez, Fabian Valdez and by his beloved grandchildren, Palmer Held and Karsyn Held, who brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Frank Valdez, Fred Valdez, Max Valdez, Alexis Chan, Allison Avery, Diana Castro, and Omar Castro, the mother of his children, Stephanie Quesada; as well as many extended family and friends. The bonds of family meant everything to Fabian, and those who shared in his life will continue to carry forward the laughter, love, and strength he gave so freely.
Fabian was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Margaret Castro, whose memory remained an important part of his life.
