Dolores Saavedra, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. She was born on June 2, 1947 in Tucson, Arizona to Rafael Castillo and Hortencia Nido. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
Dolores lived a life rooted in love and devotion to her family. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family brought her the greatest joy. Prior to her illness, she treasured celebrating special moments, gatherings, and holidays with those she loved most. She will be remembered for her humor, compassion, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and cared for.
She was one of eleven children, a proud mother of four, and a cherished “Nana” and “Tía” to many.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, Rafael Castillo and Ortencia Nido; her brothers Raul (Ana Maria) Castillo and Ricardo (Bertha) Castillo; her sister Rosa Castillo; and her daughter, Martha Valdez.
She is survived by her brothers Rafael (Blanca) Castillo, Roberto (Francisca) Castillo, Rodolfo (Alicia) Castillo, and Mario (Guillermina) Castillo; her sisters Martha (Alfonso) Quiroz and Ana Julia (José) Arvallo; her sons Manuel (Michelle) Saavedra, Oscar (Maria) Saavedra, Francisco (Takiya) Saavedra, Ulises (Brenda) Sanchez and daughter Maria Teresa Saavedra; her grandchildren Emma, Miguel (Alexandra), Ivette, Amber, Isaiah, Aliyah, Amari, Aliana, Alexia, Alyssa, Amaya, Demitrius; her great grandchildren Anaisa, Anthony, Zoey, and Aria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025 at Martinez Funeral Chapel at 2580 South 6th Avenue, Tucson, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Santa Cruz Catholic Church at 1220 South 6th Avenue, Tucson, Arizona. Reception to follow at Martinez Funeral Chapel.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Northwest Hospital CVICU nursing staff for their compassionate and attentive care of Dolores during her final days.
Dolores’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
