Daniel Duron Mejia passed away on April 20th, 2025, at the age of 72. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita, his children, Danny, Luis (Patricia), and Guadalupe, his grandchildren, Jasmin, Mia, Lyna, and Jordan, and his great-granddaughter Ava.
He was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico on July 21st, 1952. He had humble beginnings growing up with his siblings in Mexico, where he grew up with a passion for sports, such as basketball and baseball. He was married to Juanita Rangel on December 12th, sharing a life of 49 years together. He went on to pursue a career as a physical education teacher. And would move to Tucson, AZ. in 1984. Surrounded by the excitement of sports, he also became a coach, and later a sports referee. He went on to have a legacy of 40+ years as an educator. Working with students, colleagues, and friends at Davis Elementary School and Roskruge Bilingual Middle and Elementary School. After retirement he continued as a coach and referee for youth sports and adult leagues.
He enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees, and the New England Patriots to name a couple. He loved spending time with his family and always shared his sense of humor and wisdom with everyone around him. He had a passion for seeing others succeed.
There will be a mass service held to celebrate Daniel on May 2nd, 2025 at 10am at St. Augustine Cathedral. It will then be followed by a funeral service at Martinez Funeral Chapels at 5pm, with a rosary at 6:30pm. Friends and family are invited to attend and pay their respects.
