It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Christopher Salas Dela Peña, also known in the Lowrider community as “China Man.” Chris was born on the island of Guam on December 23, 1975, and was residing in Tucson, Arizona with his life partner, Mary Jane Agni.Chris was an active member of the Individuals Car Club and was widely known and respected in the Lowrider community for his incredible talent in painting, creating beautiful works of art that rolled through the streets and turned heads wherever they went. His love for cars began at a young age. He could always be found in the garage, tinkering and leaving tools scattered about, much to his father’s dismay. If only his father were here today to witness the artistry Chris brought to life.
He lived doing what he loved most, and it humbles our family to hear the lasting impact he had on so many friends and fellow enthusiasts. Chris deeply loved his family, as well as the many friends who became his extended family over the years. He was calm, cool, and collected, yet at the same time, often the life of the party bringing laughter, light, and unforgettable energy wherever he went. If Chris could tell his own story, it would likely be through quotes from movies and songs, his way of making sense of life and sharing pieces of himself. If you knew him, you know there was always a story to tell. That’s part of what drew so many people to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Vicenta “Babe” Dela Peña of Piti, Guam.
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Jane Agni, his children & step children and their families: Geisha Ann P. Dela Peña-Astrinos (Jared & Isabella), Genifer Marie P. Dela Peña, William Robert Pascual, Ariel Lafuente, Marielle Lafuente, Abigail Lafuente, Jasmine Cezar, and Austin Cezar; the mother of his children, Ghia P. Dela Peña; his siblings, John Salas, Annie Dela Peña, and Lisa Dela Peña; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
