Alfonso V. Bracamonte, belovedly known as "Brac," passed away on February 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the community he served. Born on May 9, 1943, in Nogales, AZ, Alfonso was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Alfonso dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. He began his career at the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department and displayed immense dedication during his 26 years of service. Alfonso rose through the ranks and served as Sheriff for eight years. He was not just an ordinary Sheriff; he was a compassionate soul who truly wanted people to learn from their mistakes and grow. Despite the rough and tough nature of law enforcement, Alfonso believed in second chances.

One memorable aspect of Alfonso's approach to law enforcement was how he handled incidents involving locals residents. For example, with intoxicated drivers, instead of arresting them immediately, he would call their mothers to inform them of their behavior. Alfonso believed that this method would not only hold individuals accountable but also bring about a change of heart. In addition to his unique approach with detainees, Alfonso's mother would diligently prepare plates of food for prisoners under his care. This act of kindness demonstrated the warmth and compassion that resided within his big heart.

Outside of his profession, Alfonso found joy in various hobbies and interests. Horseback riding and roping brought him great pleasure and allowed him to connect with nature and animals. Furthermore, restoring old cars became a passion for him as he transformed worn-out vehicles into beautiful pieces of history.

Alfonso had a remarkable personality that touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He was known for being quite the jokester and made it his mission to bring laughter into the lives of others. Yet beneath his humor, he possessed a stern and unwavering commitment to his principles. Alfonso would always be remembered for his genuine love for people and his family. Uniquely born on Mother's Day and passed away on Valentine's Day which was also Ash Wednesday.

Alfonso's proudest accomplishment during his tenure at the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department was introducing a robust retirement policy, ensuring that those who served alongside him would have security and peace of mind in their later years.

In his youth, Alfonso enlisted in the Navy at the tender age of 17. This decision showcased his bravery and commitment to serving his country.

Alfonso was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Siera, as well as his parents, Eugenio and Gertrudis Bracamonte. He is survived by his children, Yolanda Sainz, Lennard Alfonso Bracamonte (Jamelle), and Nicholas Alfonso Bracamonte (Allegra). His memory will forever live on through his grandchildren Liselle (Andres), Aidan, Mikael, Roman, Benjamin and Valentina; great-grandson Andres; siblings Eugenio Bracamonte, Ernesto Bracamonte and Cecilia Martinez; as well as his cowboy prodigy, his nephew, Adann Rojas. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

A Mass celebrating Alfonso V. Bracamonte's life will take place on February 26th at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Parish located at 272 N Rodriguez St in Nogales. Following the Mass, an interment ceremony will be held at Nogales Cemetery starting at 3:30 PM located on W Western Ave.
